Four intense days in Iceland, covering some of the most fascinating places of this land of ice and fire.
From Reykjavik, you will head out towards the Golden Circle, the central geothermal paradise of the island, with views over Mount Hekla volcano, the highlands of Landmannalaugar, Þórsmörk Valley and the "famous" volcano of Eyjafjallajökull.
Walk this full of steep mountains, waterfalls, rivers and volcanic soil land. You are at the steering wheel of one of the most special vehicles from Toyota. Specially modified and prepared for such an adventure.
A long weekend to put your driving skills to the limit, surrounded by breathtaking scenery. You will only have to worry about one thing: taking the GoPro battery to capture every single moment of this experience.
Drive the Golden Circle on board of a Toyota Hilux or a Toyota Land Cruiser
One of the best ways to discover Iceland is on board a 4x4 vehicle. The most authentic areas of the island are mountain routes and non-cemented trails. In order to fully live these beautiful natural spaces in Iceland, like the Golden Route, we highly recommend that you are equip yourself with a Toyota or similar. You will discover the three most outstanding visiting points int he company of your professional guide-conductor: the Gullfos waterfall, the Haudakadalur valley and the Thingvellir void. You will also have the chance to visit other interesting places such as the Hekla volcano, the mountain area of Landmannalaugar, the valley of Þórsmörk and the Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
Nature in its purest state
Iceland is a country with a very particular orography and varied landscape. Its plato is formed of mountain chains, fiords, waterfalls, glaciers, geysers and breathtaking cliffs. The fascinating scenery is authentic and wild, combing fire and ice thanks to the golf currents that surround it. This natural phenomenon creates a series of volcanic pools that you will be able to enjoy thanks to their thermal waters that rise from the subfloor. Watching this natural scenery is a sight you will never forget.
Day 1: Reykjavik
The basic driving pack includes 3 days/2 nights and starts early in the morning, meaning that there is no time to visit Reykjavik. For this reason, we recommend that you arrive on the day before in order to enjoy the city. You will spend the first night at Black Pearl Reykjavik Finest Apartments.This first day you will have spare time to get to know the city, so head to downtown area and discover the highest concentration of cultural institutions of this modern city such as the impressive Reykjavík city hall or the Allgrímskirja church built in 1937. In the evening dinner at the hotel where you will be able to try the local cuisine. Enjoy the nightlife a drink in the trendiest bars of the capital.
Day 2: Drive around the Golden Circle
At 8.30 am a guide will come to pick up you to the hotel and you will transferred to the meeting point where you will joint the rest of the group and you will be given a vehicle to start the route. All the group will be headed to Golden Circle. The first stop is at Thingvellir National Park, home of Iceland’s ancient Viking parliament and listed as a UNESCO’s World Heritage site. You will drive to Lyngdalsdalsheiði following a mountain road with great views of the mountain and the lake. At Haukadalur, home of the great Geysir, the reliable Strokkur geyser erupts every few minutes. These incredible hot spring spouts boiling water to a height of 25 to 35 meters. Next you will head up to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall cascading down in the Hvítá river originating in the Langjökull glacier. There is an optional extra activity on this day, a snowmobile ride on Langjökull. In the afternoon you will head to Minni Borgir cottages for a BBQ dinner and a relaxing bath in the Hot Tub.
Day 3: Mount Helka & Landmannalaugar
The following day you will be travelling to a very special area with a variety of tracks and through breathtaking mountain ranges. On this day you will have the chance to visit the Hekla volcano area and Landmannalaugar highland paradise. Mount Hekla is a 1450 meter high and one of Iceland's most active volcanoes that had its most recent eruption in 2000. During the Middle Ages, Europeans called the volcano the "Gateway to Hell."
After watching Helka volcano you will drive through deserted tracks in combination with a stunning ruggedness of the surroundings. You will drive to Landmannalaugar and to its comfy mountain hut at the borders of a warm river. The extraordinary colors that surround the hut in Landmannalaugar will leave nobody untouched. After relaxing and enjoying a bath in the natural hot river you will be heading to your cottage and enjoy a BBQ leg of lamb before crawl into our sleeping bags.
Please note: In summer time the night in Landmannalaugar is not offered. You will head back to Minniborgir cottages.
Day 4: Glacier Rivers & Katla Volcano
On this last day you and your travel companions will we head to the foot of Eyjafjallajökull volcano. You will drive along the small Icelandic farms that are beneath the volcano. After driving between two glaciers on the rutted tracks and crossing some unbridged glacier rivers you will arrive at Þórsmörk valley at the foot of Mýrdalsjökull glacier and Katla volcano, Iceland's fourth largest glacier.
On the South Coast you will drive on black sand beaches and admire the beauty and power of the North Atlantic Ocean. Last but not least, we will stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss where the brave ones can take a walk behind the waterfall as it falls from the cliffs. Afterwards, all the group will start heading back to Reykjavik. The arrival time at Reykjavik is usually late (around 6 pm). Depending on your flight time it is recommended to book a post-night stay. Cars used for this expedition are usually Toyota Hilux AT38 POLAR. These type of cars are adapted to the worst ice and snow conditions. The tire pressure can be adjusted to changing conditions, from the softest to the hardest ice. Ice screws provide great vehicle traction and soften the tyres throughout the rough terrain giving its passengers a comfortable ride.

Minniborgir Cottages are located 75km from Reykjavik. In the vicinity of Minniborgir you will find the largest summer cottage area in Iceland where you will spend the second and third night. Through the years Icelanders have chosen this area for their holidays because of the good weather conditions and its location close to many Iceland’s natural pearls.
All houses are high quality all-year-around houses. They are warmed up with thermal heating and they are carefully insulated. Even it is snowing, freezing or raining these houses are always comfortable. The thermal hot pools located next to the houses are always ready for use and very popular.
Minniborgir offers 4 different kinds of houses depending on the size:
- The 7 houses with a size of 323 sq ft (30 m2) are called Village I. This type of accommodation features one bedroom and a sofa-bed in the dining room. They can accommodate a maximum of five people. They are also located in a closed village and have 3 shared hot tubs.
- The 7 houses with a size of 431 sq ft (40 m2) belong to the Village II and they feature two rooms. They are located in a closed village and include individual hot tubs. They can accommodate a maximum of seven people.
- The 7 houses with a size of 861 sq ft (80 m2) belong to Minniborgir luxury houses and all of them have hot tubs, a big terrace and a gas grill. They can accommodate nine people within their two floors.
- The 1076 sq ft (100 m2) house known as Minniborgir extra luxury house is the most luxurious in Minniborgir. It features a hot tub, a big terrace and a gas grill. This is type of accommodation includes nine beds and can accommodate comfortably more than ten people.
Houses are equipped with comfortable beds and offer all the amenities expected in a comfortable house: gas barbecue, hot tub, living room with comfortable seating, two warm-water showers, a fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher machine, a large refrigerator with a freezer, a good electric cooking stove and dinner table and tableware. High-quality mattresses are in the beds, two television sets and more. Every house has wireless high-speed connection.
The price of the 4x4 Iceland Toyota Hilux Getaway experience is per person and needs a minimum of 2 people. The experience has a duration of 4 days/ 3nights.
