El Somni del Celler de Can Roca (Celler de Can Roca's Dream)
One Opera of 12 acts, 12 courses and 12 wines
The gastronomic experience of "The Century" where only a few privileged are led to the Paradise of Senses
There was a time when the Roca brothers wondered which was the flavour of the moon. As a result of their curiosity, they let their imagination fly and started making trials with different products that had a mineral taste. The idea was that when you were taking a bite, you would feel that you were eating a piece of the moon. The lunar dish, step by step, started to take shape: black truffle cream, sphere with white truffle, ground water and black sesame cake. Not even Neil Armstrong would have realized that this was not the genuine moon!
From the creation of the lunar astro, a new surrealist gastronomic concept embarked. The expedition would be commanded by the three brothers. After a few months of fine-tuning the convoy, they were ready to officially launch their most awaited creation: “El Somni” (The Dream). The embarkment to the aircraft, was only allowed to twelve privileged passengers, who would be sent to an unknown world where fantasy and dreams got their maximum glory in a gastronomic explosion.
The aircraft of the famous Roca brothers, with base in the cloister of the Arts Santa Monica (Las Ramblas), was ready to cross the earth’s atmosphere to carry, these twelve lucky passengers, for some hours, to a universe similar to science fiction films.
The doors to the paradise of senses closed, no additional passengers were accepted. Among the guests, to this unique flight, there were composers, designers, set designers, inventors, filmmakers, thinkers, scientists, musicians and poets. A wide variety of personalities, with artistic calling, blossoming of creativity and talent such as Ferran Adrià, Miquel Barceló, Joël Candau, Bonaventura Clotet, Nandita Das, Abderrahma Kheddar, Ben Lehner, Harold McGee, Freida Pinto, Josep Pons and Lisa Randall. These guests were demanding to the most intricate detail. They were ready to criticize the 12 acts that divide the journey of “El Somni”.
Three, two, one, zero, ignite! The convoy made its inaugural journey on the 6th of May 2013 where Astrid, the main character of this opera of 12 acts, 12 courses and 12 selected wines, was the pilot of this gastronomic journey. Passengers, suddenly heard orchestra music. The expedition group, was seated around a circular aircraft of 240 cm in diameter when, abruptly, they were involved in an opera with images, flavours and tastes. The surrounding four screens, that were covering the spacecraft created a new dimension. The navigation was placidly while each stop was bringing a new experience, where each bite was carefully produced.
The next space mission, “Amanecer de un sueño” (Dawn of a dream), will be coming soon. It may be, that this time, you have the opportunity to be part of oneiric-gastronomic world of Roca brothers.
