Peugeot's simple and spectacular piece is not only impressive because of its lines, its how and with what materials its been manufactured that makes its design one of the most revolutionary ones in the last few years.
This is the story of how Peugeot Design Lab turned volcanic rock into the Onyx Sofa, a sofa that is a delicate work of art.
The Tortona district in Milan is where the Onyx volcanic rock sofa was first shown to the world. Peugeot revealed a three meter long sofa made of carbon fibre and Volvic (volcanic lava stone). This piece is the first of a a new furniture collection.
This hand carved sofa, follows Peugeot Onyx Trio's lead that was launched in 2012. It included a superbike, a supertrike and a supercar that combined the latest materials and technology. A series of lamps, shelves, armchairs and tables were on display at the sofa's exhibition. Each piece explores a variety of materials including concrete, red ferrous Jasper, steel, quartz crystal, aluminium and sculpted wood.
