The Jaquet-Droz signing machine

A tribute to the watchmaking master of the XVIII century

In 1773 Jaquet Droz created The Writer, an automaton that wrote predefined phrases in cursive

Jaquet Droz was a master watch-maker in the XVIII century who became famous for his mechanic automatisms. In 1773 he created The Writer, an automat that wrote predetermined sentences in cursive writing. This was a huge revolution for his time, making his name prestigious worldwide.

Today, the Jaquet-Droz company has created a signature machine to commemorate his creation. This device is a little smaller than a smartphone and can precisely and meticulously reproduce the signature of its owner. An articulated arm holds a pen that is safely guarded by a four digit code mechanism. This device is elegant and attractive on the outside, while ingenious and unique from within. The majority of the pieces for its assembly are handmade and is only available upon request.
