Velaa Private Island
It’s hard to say who is more excited: You or your kid? Board onto the mini-submarine that, in a few minutes, will dip into the Indian Ocean to reveal all of its hidden secrets. Bring out your inner James Bond!
Back on land, your child runs to the kid’s club to share the adventure with the rest of the group. It's the perfect moment for a bit of self-indulgence at Velaa’s My Blend Spa by Clarins geography-defying snow room. You feel the contrast in temperatures as soon as you return to your private villa and lie down on the lounge chair in front of the pool and feel the warm sun rays.
The Velaa Private Island resort owes its existence to the dream of a Czech billionaire, Jiri Smec, that fell in love with the Maldives and decided to turn this little piece of land in the Indian Ocean into a superlative high end retreat.
"Velaa" or “turtle” in the local language, is one of the few truly private islands in this paradisiacal archipelago. Its nearly perfect round shape is reminiscent of the many turtles that inhabit these waters and is home to one of the most impressive luxury resorts on Earth.
Czech architect Petr Kolar designed this masterpiece of sophisticated leisure, that blends maximum levels of privacy with unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment.
Whether your goal is to relax and disconnect or enjoying many land and water activities, the Velaa is likely to surpass your expectations - from the Clarins Spa to the Michelin-starred cuisine. The resort was built from scratch in 2013 and is a small secluded world where everything has been designed to seduce.
Boasting three amazing restaurants, gastronomy is paramount at the Velaa. The resort has secured the services of the famous Michelin-starred chef Adeline Grattard, with experience in restaurants like Bo Innovation from Hong Kong and L’Astrance and Yam’Tcha from Paris.
Adeline Grattard has made sure that the culinary experience at the Aragu, the island’s signature restaurant, is unbeatable.
The Tavaru tower is one of the reference points of the resort, an architectonic extravaganza that in addition to hosting a teppanyaki restaurant and offering views of the whole island and surrounding seas, doubles down as a wine cellar. In fact, it houses the best wine and champagne collection in the Maldives.
Champagne enthusiasts will find their own personal paradise at Cru, a champagne bar where it is possible to enjoy some of the finest sparkling wines in the World, with the assistance of expert sommeliers.
If you do not wish to venture very far from the beach, there is also the Athiri, the resort’s casual beach-side eatery, with an always-open buffett and a-la-carte offering.
The Avi is the resort’s bar has a terrace that's ideal for a late signature cocktail under the gaze of the stars.
Velaa is home to the only Clarins Spa in Asia and one of the four in the World that has a snow room. You can experience an interesting temperature contrast - a favorite among some of the resort’s regulars.
Velaa Private Island is not only family friendly, but it has its own spaces and activities designed to entertain children. You can relax while they are having a great time under care.
